Your Take and your Cred are different numbers
The money you bank during a Job is your Take. It decides the match. Cred is the reward currency credited to your account after the result. A big bag isn't a direct currency conversion: hauling another $10K out of a vault does not mean another 10,000 Cred in your balance.
That distinction matters when you start playing for rewards. Concentrate on winning the Job through good exits rather than treating every extra flip as a guaranteed larger payout. A bag that busts still contributes nothing to your banked Take.
In the current house-Job rules, a win pays 40 Cred and a loss pays 20. The first eligible win of the UTC day adds 100. Earning is subject to a shared daily threshold; after 600 earned Cred, the ordinary capped Job payout is 5. The current payout screen is the useful place to see what your particular result earned, including bonuses and cap status.
What 100 Cred buys
A Case File costs 100 Cred at The Fence and contains five collectible cards. It is a pack of individual copies, not five extra playable characters locked away from everyone else. The full 120-card Roster is already available for The Job.
| Step | Cred balance | What you have |
|---|---|---|
| Before visiting The Fence | 140 | Enough Cred for one Case File |
| After buying one | 40 | One sealed Case File |
| After opening it | 40 | Five graded collectibles instead of that sealed file |
Opening doesn't pay your purchase price back as currency. What you receive is the collection. If you're playing in the browser alpha, those items belong to that game account's inventory; they aren't automatically deposited into Steam.
Separate the reveal into three questions
The Appraisal introduces the character, its art variant and the condition of this copy. Ask which character you found, which artwork you got and how the copy graded. Those are related parts of the reveal, but they aren't interchangeable.
The first four slots use the ordinary variant distribution. The fifth is Rare or better. That guarantee concerns the art tier; it doesn't guarantee a high condition grade, a character you haven't seen before or a particular resale result.
The base character is drawn from the roster, so repeated characters are possible. A repeat can still have different art, subgrades and wear. Conversely, a new face can arrive in a modest grade. A useful opening review looks at all five copies instead of stopping at the loudest reveal.
What to do after the Appraisal
Open the Stash and inspect one card properly. Read its four subgrades. Compare the condition against the overall number. If you pulled a look for someone in your crew, visit the Roster and see whether you prefer that artwork for play.
Then take stock of the collection as a whole. Did the file add a runner you're interested in taking into BLACKOUT? Did it give you a second version of a favorite? Those are concrete outcomes. “The next pack must be better” isn't an outcome; it's an assumption the opening doesn't support.
Cred can be earned through play. Optional purchases are available to eligible US browser players, but buying currency isn't required to assemble a legal crew. Check the current in-game offer and odds before any purchase rather than borrowing a number from an old screenshot or guide.
The Steam listing describes its own Steam Inventory edition. Browser and Steam collections remain separate. For the playable web build and its account requirements, use the browser alpha page; for what each condition number means, begin with the collection overview.
