What does “push your luck” mean?
A push-your-luck game repeatedly asks whether to keep a reward or risk it for something better. The interesting part is what you can lose by continuing. Drawing another card can improve your result, but a bad outcome can wipe out the rewards you have not secured.
In Smash & Grab’s card mode, The Job, this is a heist. Flip a crew card to add its Haul to your bag. Bag It to move that bag into your banked Take. Your unbanked bag is exposed; your banked Take is safe. You must flip at least once before you can leave a vault.
A worked vault example
Imagine you have 12 loot in your bag and the shared alarm is at 14. A crew card with 6 Haul and 3 Heat would raise your bag to 18 and the alarm to 17. That sounds attractive, but you do not choose or know the next card. A card with 5 Heat would take the alarm to 19 and trip it instead.
There is also a hidden Tripwire. It cannot appear among your first two cards, but from your third card onward it can end the vault even when the alarm has room. The decision is about both rewards and risks, not just how close a meter is to full.
Why another player changes the decision
The two crews have separate bags and share one alarm. While both are inside, their turns alternate. Your rival can raise the meter before you get another turn, which means a flip can expose your new bag to another decision you do not control.
Once the rival banks and leaves, you can continue alone. Their Take gives you a target, but it does not make your next card safer. The alarm and Tripwire still apply. A bigger bag only helps if it gets out.
Where crew building fits
Before a Job, you choose 12 distinct cards from a roster of 120, or use auto-build. Haul, Heat and role shape that crew. The dramatic decisions then happen inside the vault: continue, or leave with what you have? Collectible art and grades do not change a card’s gameplay stats.
Is this a browser game?
The announced platforms are Steam and iOS, targeting October 2026; timing may change. The browser alpha is playable now with Google sign-in; public browser purchases are not available yet. This site currently offers rules, strategy and in-development gameplay footage.
